Egmont National Park
Mount Taranaki (formerly Mount Egmont) dominates the town of New Plymouth on the west side of the North island. We followed the trails of a walk that is called the Pouakai Track. First it takes you to the slopes of Mount Taranaki itself, and then crosses a swamp and a river before arriving at the Pouakai Hut. The Pouakai Hut has got a loo with a view (see also the Matemateonga Walkway page)..! When we continued the walk, after spending some time on that loo, we got some great views of the mountain..
