The mighty Murray is one of the icons of Australia. The River gets (or should get) most of its water from the High Country and (via the Darling) the ranges in Norther NSW and as far into Queensland as Carnarvon National Park. It is an important source of water for the River Red Gums, Wildlife, Birdlife, Wine producers, Rice growers and as a drinking water source for the city of Adelaide... and of course cotton... Since the drought there is too much competition and the river is running dry...
