The Birdsville Track

From Marree to Birdsville, or the other way around, goes the Birdsville Track. It's a dirt road, which is very easy negotiable for most of the time. When we were on it, it had just been closed for a couple of days, because of pouring rains. Birdsville, where the first three pictures of this page were taken, is renowned for its hotel (the Birdsville Hotel), the Birdsville races in the first weekend of September and the pretty high temperatures during summer. Temperatures of 50°C are not uncommon during the summer. The track itself is not so spectacular, in terms of scenic beauty, as some other tracks in Australia are. Still, there is a lot to see, and occasionally you come across little paradises. Marree is at the end, or at the beginning of the Birdsville track. It's also the starting (or end) point of the Oodnadatta Track, which is also a very beautiful track to drive on.
